Description
Heriberto Juarez (Mexico, 1932 - 2008) bronze sculpture depicting a bullfighting scene with matador or torero confronting the bull with his cape. Signed on base and mounted on a circular, 1" H plinth of red marble. 10 3/4" H overall. Biography (courtesy the Boca Raton Museum of Art/Emilio Gamboa Patron): Heriberto Juarez was born on a farm in San Juan Teotihuacan, and worked as a bullfighter in his youth. He was primarily self-taught. Once he discovered sculpture and drawing, he made bulls, toreadors and other bullfighting subjects common themes. His work included public monuments and smaller private commissions, and can be found in numerous collections including the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Museum of Latin American Art, and the Heriberto Juarez Arts Garden at the Universidad de las Americas Pueblos in Mexico.
