Melbourne Havelock Hardwick (Canadian/American, 1857-1916) Two watercolors on paper of women waiting at the shore. 1st Item: Watercolor/Gouache of three female fish gatherers walking on shore with larger group by boats in background. Signed lower right. Sight: 8" H x 12" W. Gilt paneled frame with linen liner: 15 1/2" H x 19 3/8" W. 2nd Item: Watercolor of four female gatherers with baskets in foreground and others in background by boats. Church and other buildings on hillside. Sight: 10 5/8" H x 15" W. Gilt paneled frame with linen liner: 17 1/4" H x 21 3/4" W. Provenance: Estate of Bill Zarnon, Gatlinburg, Tenn. Biography (courtesy Askart: The Artists' Bluebook): Canadian-born artist Melbourne Havelock Hardwick specialized in painting landscapes, figures, marines, genre, farms, and interiors in oil and watercolor. He studied painting in Boston and Europe and was a pupil of Triscott, Luyton, and Blummers. Hardwick was a member of the Boston Art Club; the Boston Society of Watercolor Painters; the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts; and the Salmagundi Club (1907) in New York City. He exhibited with the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts; the National Academy of Design in New York City; and annually with the Boston Art Club from 1891 to 1909. Condition
1st item: Very good condition. 2nd item: 1" tear and 1" scratch upper left edge. Three spots, possibly foxing, in right quadrant of sky. Image not examined out of frame.
