Description
Three panel American screen with upper panels having heraldic and shield imagery encompassed by foliate surrounds, each panel signed lower right, J. W. Fosdick (James William Fosdick, MA, 1858 - 1937). Fire etching on pine wood with gold highlights to heraldic symbols, oak lower panels and frame. Note - J. W. Fosdick studied at the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston and later at the Academie Julian in Paris from 1881-1888. He was considered to be the father of "fire etching" or pyrography. Fosdick exhibited at the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition in Nashville. (Research courtesy Joe Rosson). 66"W x 67"H (folds to 22"W panel). Late 19th/early 20th century. Condition
Overall very good condition, age separations on lower oak panels, minor loss to upper corner of middle oak frame, scuffs to screen feet.
