Item Details
Description
This is a rather elaborate red lacquer wood child's chair with an elaborately carved crest rail that ends at each end a dragon head. The back splat is shaped like an S curve and made of openwork fastened securely to the seat by joinery. The four legs are slightly splayed and the whole effect is a very attractive chair for a child. Chinese chairs are very sculptural and this chair is very much so. The highly decorated chair must serve a purpose, especially where dragons were used as decoration. It would seem to be against sumptuous laws where dragons were for use for the imperial family. That would put the chair in the late Qing Dynasty where these laws were no longer reinforced. Dimensions are 24 inches wide, 19 inches deep and 34 inches high.
