Carved and painted boxwood depiction of the crucifixion, finely rendered with realistic musculature and long majestic proportions. Christ's tranquil visage appears to be serenely releasing the anguish of the crucifixion, despite the blood flowing from his wounds. The cross of a lovely design with intricately carved termini, fitted within a polychrome base. Masterfully carved in sought after European boxwood. A superb example of high European religious sculpture. Size: 9.5" W x 17" H (24.1 cm x 43.2 cm).
