Description
This is a strikingly hyper-real view of a dove flying toward the art-deco terracotta decoration of a New York City building, It is a gouache painting on illustration board, signed O'Neill, and dated February 4, 1942 on the back of the frame. The style and subject make this painting a predecessor if the work of the New Realists of the 1970's, and in particular the work of Robert Cottingham. The painting is 9"x8.25" and the frame is 18.25"x17" Unfortunately, the identity of the artist remains unknown, as there are many O'Neills listed. The painting is in excellent condition, and is freshly matted in acid-neutral materials and framed under glass. The frame is original, and shows wear. The original date stamp shows on the back of the frame, and the original framing label has been saved and affixed to the back. Item ID: 4042AUT
