Item Details
Description
Midwest artist Joseph W. Jicha (1901-1960) painted this lovely Spring meadow on location (plein air) around 1945. It was found in the New Hampshire estate of an art collector. Jicha worked as a successful commercial artist and graphic designer, but also received many honors for his fine art paintings. He believed his commercial work helped him as a painter, because of the careful planning of design work. In 1929, Jicha won the international Frank Logan Medal at the Chicago Art Institute for painting. His work appeared in the Saturday Evening Post and Life magazine, he won the Art Director's Show in New York City in 1936, and he exhibited paintings at KORNER & WOOD (1938) and Hotel ALCAZAR HOTEL (1941). His work is in the San Diego Museum and the Mexico Natl. Museum. The painting is on canvas-board measuring 10" x 13". The frame size is 16" x 19". The painting is in good condition, and has been gently cleaned and coated with archival non-yellowing varnish. The frame is new, custom-made gold-metal leaf over wood.
