Description
Rome, late Imperial Period, ca. 364 to 450 CE. This is a collection of 11 bronze coins of the designation AE4 (bronze + size). Roman coins underwent a series of devaluations, revaluations, and consistent changing to value, especially in the unstable years of the later Empire as access to precious metals became a larger problem -- at one point, mints were even set up nearly soldier encampments to ensure the payment of the army! Size of largest: 1/2" W (1.3 cm).
