Item Details
Description
Latin America, Mexico, ca. 1900 CE. A moulded wax doll depicting a female figure wearing a black dress, comprised of a finely woven netted fabric, embellished at the collar, waist, cuffs, and scalloped hem with gold-hued trim. Underneath her dress she wears silky knickers and suede laces are tied around one of her calves. The attention to detail displayed on his visage is impressive: inlaid eyes (possibly of glass), arched brows, pointy nose, rosy lips, naturalistic ears, and a shoulder-length, wavy brunette coiffure. Although beeswax sculptures had been created for centuries, during the mid-1800s their popularity resurged in Mexico. Custom wood stand. A wonderful example! Size: Doll itself measures 17" x 7" (43.2 x 17.8 cm); 17-7/8" (45.4 cm) on stand

Provenance: Ex-Historia Antiques, James Caswell, Santa Monica, CA
