Description
Early 19th century, Edo period, Ukiyo-e style, Japanese. Oban woodblock print, ink and color on paper. Kuniyoshi's "Chusenko Tei Tokuson (Ding Desun)" is part of "The 108 Heroes of the Popular Water Margin (Tsuzoku Suikoden goketsu hyakuhachinin no hitori)", print depicts a battle scene between man and serpent, writing in the upper right-hand corner, artist' signature and publisher's seal in lower left corner, published by Kagaya Kichiemon. Print mounted to paper, "No. 2 Antique over 150 years" and Kuniyoshi" written in pencil to mounting paper. Provenance: from the Morris Collection. Print approx. 14 7/8 by 10 1/8 in., 37.7 by 25.7 cm.
