Description
Bock-Steger, Leipzig, Germany, ca. 1900 CE. A handsomely crafted and painted plaster anatomical model of a cross section of the human brain with original "Bock-Steger Lips" brass label attached to lower end of base. Franz Josef Steger and pathological anatomist Carl Ernst Bock collaborated at the University of Leipzig to produce anatomical models for the instruction of students in the 19th century. Such models were either direct casts or sculpted in plaster, porcelain or wax. Steger also explored the early use of plastics. However, it is the plaster models for which he is famous. These instructive models were sold via international catalogues and scientific shops in Germany. Quite a rare curiosity! Size: 12-1/4" x 9-3/4" (31.1 x 25 cm)
