Description
"UNCLE TOM'S CABIN"
Handbill for a performance of "Uncle Tom's Cabin", 1p. 6" x 10", ca. 1920's, advertising a five act adaptation of the novel by Harriet Beecher Stowe. The book received many theatrical adaptations, many of which featured blackface minstrels and racial stereotypes, inverting its original message. This version, adapted by L.V. de Lavar, included: "Prof. G. Edward Mathews big uniform band and Mlle. Lola's lady saxophone soloists... A pack of genuine Siberian bloodhounds... Under the Monster, Mammoth Water-Proof Tent". Small tear in lower left corner, moderate toning throughout, else very good.
