Under blacklight, there is a heavy varnish florescence overall. There are minor retouching spots to approximately 15-20 areas, almost all in the top half of the painting. There is a spot of overpainting to the beard below the left cheek. On top of the varnish, the pigment is lighter and more matte. There is a handwritten, almost illegible, paper label en verso at the lower center. The painting approximately dates to the early 18th century.
