Description
A rare Jenny couture orientalist embroidered afternoon dress, circa 1922-4, woven blue on ivory satin label, numbered 9222, the cinnamon-brown chiffon ground embroidered in chain stitch in bands with chinoiserie figures, parasols in a landscape, with arm-bands forming faux sleeves, bust 102cm, 40in
Condition
Colour is generally good. Very, very slight fading to binding at right underarm inside edge. Exterior is good. Embroidery is good, just the odd floating thread. Bodice seam has been taken in by approx. 2.5cm on the left side to the waist closure. The rest of the dress and skirt look unaltered. It looks to me like an adjustment near the time it was made. The skirt has been shortened by folding over a panel of fabric behind the waistband and lightly tacking in place. It may have been updated for the 1924, more ankle-revealing look. 2 small faint grey spot stains to rear skirt, concealed within the embroidery.
