DESCRIPTION: After George Frederic Watts (English, 1817-1904). Oil on canvas. "Sir Galahad". Depicts the knight in armor named Sir Galahad standing in a forest with his horse. Marked on reverse "Sir Galahad and his horse". In ornate gilt frame with leaves and tree bark motifs. George Frederic Watts was a popular English Victorian painter and sculptor associated with the Symbolist movement. He was home-schooled by his father in a conservative interpretation of Christianity as well as the classics such as the Iliad - the former put him off conventional religion for life, whilst the latter was a continual influence on his art. MEASUREMENTS: 35" x 23". Overall with frame 48-3/8" x 34-1/8". CONDITION: Loss of tension to canvas. Frame retrofitted to hold canvas. Minor wear to frame including losses and scratches.
