Description
DESCRIPTION: Three carved African dolls. Includes: 1) Omolangidi carving of the Yoruba tribe, Nigeria. A child's doll with rectangular body and stylized facial features. Minor damage and abrasions to base. Traditional dolls called "omolangidi" or "wooden child". Approximately 8” tall. 2) Doll from Namji people of north-western Cameroon. Highly stylised, geometric human form, small head incised with stark facial expression. Torso wrapped with a cloth and adorned by multiple strings of red and white beads. “Magic bundles” are also attached to torso. Patina shows age and use. Apparent wear to surface. Approximately 11” tall. 3) Akuaba fertility doll of the Asante society. Round face, with a strong T-shaped eyebrow and nose over small, prominent eyes. The mouth is small and firmly incised, giving way to a neck comprised of four distinct rings. Nugatory arms, a columnar torso with small, sharp breasts and a solid base instead of two legs.
