1731 Arrest Warrant: Received His Slave & Failed to Pay
March 23, 1731-Dated Early Colonial Era, Partially-Printed Document Signed, Boston, Massachusetts-Bay, Choice Very Fine.

This 1731 Document was drawn in Boston, Suffolk / Bristol County, Massachusetts. Being a Negro Slave related Document, measuring 7.5” x 6.5” on fine laid period paper. This very rare and early Slavery related document. It states that Thomas Debuke of Boston, Massachusetts-Bay, in New England is to be arrested for receiving a Negro slave man named Primus, from Issac Palmer of Bristol and not paying for him. It also states that Thomas Debuke is a butcher by trade and Issac Palmer is a mariner. It appears that both men agreed on a price of two hundred pounds legal money for the Slave Primus, and Thomas received him, but never paid for him. The Bristol County Court, has this warrant for Thomas, to force him to pay his debts with court costs, or stay in jail. Early Colonial Massachusetts Slave documents are amongst the rarest, most difficult to acquire, especially in this excellent condition, with the wax seal still attached and a GR watermark. Choice quality for display.
