Europe and Latin America, Italy and Mexico, ca. 1925 to 1950 CE. Milagros are small religious charms used as offerings or ex votos, comprised of metal, traditionally depicting praying figures, animals, or body parts, these customarily created when asking for aid with respect to a particular ailment of that identified organ or limb. This ensemble includes one milagro depicting a pair of lungs, another depicting an isolated torso, and finally, an ear framed by openwork of a floral and foliated design with a pair of angels supporting the top central flower to which a decorative suspension loop is attached. The word milagro literally means miracle, and they are uses as offerings and fastened to crosses, statues of saints or members of the Holy Family, pinned to the garments adorning statues of saints, or hung from ribbons attached to altars.
