(25 1/4 x 39 1/2 in) Provenance: Hahn Fine Art Dealers, London (label on reverse) Brother to Anton Melbye (1818-1875) and Fritz Melbye (1826-1869), Vilhelm worked from London between 1853 to 1866, and was particularly well known for his seascapes and topographical subjects from the Mediterranean region. The present work was executed by Vilhelm while on a European tour, which it would appear that he took a number of, with several other known works having been executed in and around Spain in the early part of the 1860s, and early 1870s.
