Description
An attractive Nicoya cylinder vase, c, AD 1100 - 1450, of cylindrical shape with low pedestal foot, the body decorated in three horizontal registers, the central with the face of a deity, nicely rendered with facial features in low relief, the back of the 'head' with alternating circles and rectangles. Above and below are intricate geometric representing the clothing and headdress. H: 9 in (22.9 cm); Dia: 6 in (15.2 cm). An attractive piece with vivid earthen tones and light deposits.
