Description
Christian Haldenwang (1770-1831) engraving after Claude Lorrain. Title: Des bestiaux passant une rivire, circa 1816-1818, image approx. 10-1/4 x 13 in. plus wide clean margins. Another example of this fine engraving is in the British Museum; their description reads - Landscape with Paris and Oenone; three figures sitting beneath trees near the right foreground, cattle crossing a river beyond, various ruins and buildings along the left bank. c.1816/18 Etching and engraving. One edge tear on left side but well away from anything. Haldenwang was a German engraver. He visited the studio of the engraver Christian von Mechel in Basel, 1796 received a call from the Chalkographischen society by Dessau and in 1804 as court engraver by Karlsruhe.
