Allen Liebhabern der Mechanischen Kunsten und Wissenschaften sehr nutz- und dienlich. Ulm [Augsburg?]: [Hans Schultes the Younger?] for Joseph Furttenbach, 1663. First Edition. Folio. p3, o(6, 2)o(4, A-2A6, 2B2. [Lacks? p1 portrait] [26], 292 pages. 3-4p in red and black, Thirty-three folding etched plates (numbered 1-32 -- plate 11 has two folding illustrations one numbered 11 ½ ); presumably lacks the frontispiece portrait, as often is the case in the other issue. Eighteenth century sheep, spine badly worn, ends chipped, joints cracked, cords intact, letterpress and additional titles foxed and damp stained, small piece torn from lower blank inner corner of last leaves, stain in center of first plate, some other minor stains. Although the binding is in poor condition, this volume is a wonderful candidate to be rebound. Our copy has a cancel title-page with Ulm instead of Augsburg as the place of publication. It is apparently a rare variant and not listed in the VD 17 and only one other copy located in KVK in a German institution [SWB]. As our issue is virtually uncatalogued, we do not know if the portrait was ever issued with this edition or, equally, the occasionally reported leaf of corrections. From the Krown & Spellman Collection.
