Amazonian Circular Fan Headdress (Aheto or House for the Head); central Brazil, Karaja People, 20th c. Feathers, cotton string, beeswax and split sticks. 50" (127 cm) diameter; 64.5" x 60", 164 x 152 cm (stretcher). Comment: when worn on the back of the head as is traditional, it creates a bold statement by the wearer and now also as it is viewed mounted. Note the iridescence of the black feathers and the multi colored feathers at the tips.
