THREE RECTANGULAR FAMILLE-ROSE ENAMELED PORCELAIN PLAQUE-INSET TABLES; TOGETHER WITH A CIRCULAR FAN-SHAPED 'QIANJIANGCAI' PORCELAIN SCREEN WITH STAND
Deng Xiaoyu (1920-2000), 1959 (the three rectangular plaques)
Anonymous, late 19th-20th century (the fan-shaped plaque)
Each of the three rectangular plaques depicts flowers and birds and mounted as a table top of a small kang tables placed on top of a square-section rectangular stand. Each plaque contains poems followed by the sentence 'painted at Zhushan (located in Jingdezhen) in the spring of jihai year (corresponding to 1959),' with a painted seal zhi yin of the artist Deng Xiaoyu (1920-2000); the beaded circular fan-shaped porcelain plaque depicting an autumn scene with a grasshopper and chrysanthemums, the tapering molded fan handle imitating bamboo poles, the plaque mounted within a framed wood panel, removable from the laceworked wood stand.
Rectangular plaques: 14 3/4 x 9 5/8 in (37.5 x 24.5cm) sight, each; tables: 11 5/16 x 18 5/8 x 23in (28.7 x 47.3 x 58.5cm) overall, each; the circular plaque: 7 7/8in (20cm) diam, sight; screen: 14 3/4 x 21 3/8 (37.5 x 54.3cm) with stand (4).

Deng Xiaoyu (1920-2000) was born into a family of ceramic potters. He was the grandson of Deng Bishan (1874-1930), one of the 'Eight Friends of Zhushan'. His work on famille-rose porcelain pieces, such as our present lot, was strongly influenced by Cheng Yiting (1895-1948) and the Lingnan School.
