Description
Chinese, possibly Imperial, [ruyi] loop handles, mark of Qianlong on bottom in underglaze, 9-1/2 in. two firing cracks in rim as made. Provenance: Estate of Michael Lawrence Vermeer, Atlanta, Georgia; See Sotheby's Hong Kong, Sale 10/08/2014, Lot 3109 for a nearly identical example; A Qianlong vase of this type, but covered in a clair-de-lune glaze is in the Wah Kwong collection, and was included in the exhibition Chʻing porcelain from the Wah Kwong Collection, The Art Gallery, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, 1974, cat. no. 15; Another was sold at Christie’s London, 12th June 1989, lot 35A. A Yongzheng prototype to this vase, carved with a lotus scroll decoration, is in the Palace Museum, Beijing, and illustrated in The Complete Works of Chinese Ceramics, vol. 14, Shanghai, 1999, pl. 212, together with another decorated in doucai enamels, pl. 183.
