Horitoyo
Born in Japan as Yutaka Nakamura, it is said he inherited his insatiable love of art from his grandfather, a man who was famous nationwide for his oil paintings depicting nature scenery. As a young man Nakamura too felt the need to paint, and he first began work as an artist custom painting designs onto his friends' motorbikes. By age 18 he was tattooing himself and few friends, but knew his work was lacking. Aspiring to greatness, Nakamura received his first professional tattoo by the famous Horiken and asked to become an apprentice. Three years of study later, and Yutaka Nakamura was given the name Horiken II. His teacher told him it was time to start a personal legacy, and so he petitioned to change his name again, and since 2003 has been known to the world as Horitoyo. In his professional career, Horitoyo has opened two shops in Japan, but continues to travel. Meandering throughout Asia, Europe, and North America, he can be found working alongside fellow artists in their respective studios as well as making appearances at major tattoo conventions.
