American, late 19th century. A set of three parlor armchairs in the Renaissance Revival/Eastlake style comprising a heirarchy of sizes including one large chair and two smaller chairs, each upholstered in dark red oxblood/burgundy velvet upholstery and incised carving, the large chair with elaborately carved crest with central rondel decorated with incised flower surmounted by a scrolling pediment, over an astragal moldeing flanked by incised floral scrolls terminating in projecting oblong ears with carved scroll decoration over the upholstered trapezoidal back, the stay rail with decorative rondel, the stiles joined to the arms with molded square decorations topped by dome finials, the outward curving arms upholstered in thick padding, the turned armrests fronted by incised scrolls, turned rondels, blocks and molded ovals within molded panels, over the large round seat, the seat rail with central carved and incised decorative astragal motif, flanked by corner blocks raised on two turned fluted front legs on casters headed by turned floral motifs and molded steeply curved raking back legs, the smaller chairs each with decorative incised and carved crests surmounted by arched over molded astragal forms incised with foliate motifs, flanked by carved leave, over arched molded panels, each side of the crest with an incised stylized corbel headed by a quarter-round incised patera, the seat rail with central downward pointed triangular motif joined to the lower stay rail all decorated with incised stringing, the chair sides with fluted stiles terminating in projecting corbels terminating in cylindrical arms fronted with paterae, with incised arm supports with decorative foliate flourishes, the seat rail with central carved circle flanked by curved ends, raised on turned front legs on casters and raking back legs. Large chair approximate height 43.25", width 31.25", depth 32.5", seat to floor 18", small chair approximate height 38.25", width 22.5", depth 23", seat to floor 17.25".

Chairs are structurally sound and in overall good condition with various abrasions, splits, and wood loss commensurate with use and age. Largest chair: central finial missing. Central astragal molding at crest exhibits large bowed split running its length. The stiles exhibit various slight indentations in wood and slight wood loss commensurate with use, not particularly distracting. Left hand support with old repair and wear commensurate with use. Seat rail ornamentation with right section missing. Legs have various splits and abrasions commensurate with wear, back legs scuffed at bottom from use. Small chair 1: Crest exhibits splits and slight wormholes no longer active, lower left section of crest curve exhibits old repair. Bottom of right corbel with fill-in. Arms and decorative arm elements with slight surface abrasions. Arm supports with surface scratches and abrasions at inner edges commensurate with use. Seat rail exhibits slight abrasions. Upholstery under seat overlapping seat rail central carving. Back legs exhibit slight abrasions. Small chair 2: Crest rail exhibits two splits. Slight split under curve of crest. Left arm with slight wood loss from use and hand support with slight wear from use. Right side of stile shows jagged split. Back right leg with slight surface abrasions.
