Item Details
Description
US WW II/Korean War USNG-1 leather flight jacket and documents of pilot Lt. D.L. Lacey. This example presents a US Navy G-1 aviator's leather flight jacket, with leather name tag of "D.L. Lacey/L. CDR USNR" and stamped gilt naval aviator's wing. A circular 5" diameter patch with large machine embroidered Airborne Marlin/Sailfish holding two torpedor hovering over a partially submerged ship, on yellow and blue field all surrounded by white stars with blue edging, is machine stitched to the left breast of the jacket. Lot also includes a naval officer's overseas cap named to D. Lacey, with a miniature gilt naval aviator's wings attached. Incuded is a set of Naval Aviator's gilt wings and US Naval Aviator's issued deck of cards. Also included are two pilot's logs; one is Lacey's pilot rating log, dated 1943 (WW II) during which time he completed flight training. No other information concerning Lacey's WW II service is available. However, his "Pilot Flight Record" documenting Lacey's personal data indicates he was "re-rated" July 1946 as a commercial pilot, single and multi-engine land and sea. Lacey achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander, USNR as a Naval Aviator. During the Korean War, anti-submarine warfare (ASW) squadron's such as VP 44 flew the P5M-1 "Marlin which correlates with the jacket's squadron patch . Flight jacket is in good condition with wear seen only on fur collar tips, waistband, and cuffs. Additional research on LCDR Lacy's aviation service. NB: Jacket is a WW II vintage G-1 without "USN" perforations near zipper as seen on later jackets. Very good.
