Description
Ink and colors on paper. Japan, Tosa School, approx. 17th cent.
Very rare little paintings, which were once presumably mounted on a makimono horizontal scroll. Unusual and exciting contrast between the dynamic in larger sosho script written poem and the respective poet below in exact, peaceful depiction. The poetess with long hair and intricate garments puffing out behind her and forming a composition in itself. The poet, on the other hand, in black courtly robes with kammuri on his head as well as a strip of the sitting mat behind him. Mounted, some blemished areas.
SIZES APPROX. 26 x 19,5 CM
From a private German collection
