Description
Bronze. Thailand, approx. 18th cent.
An attractive bronze sculpture of the meditative Buddha. Broadly seated in padmasana with ideally arched chest, the samghati running over the center to the navel. Auch the elegantly crafted, curved fingers clearly present, as also seen in the facial features, the style of Ayutthya. The chin is bordered, the curved nose somewhat pointy, the spirited lotus bud as closure indicate, in contrast, the Burmese manner. Buddhas right hand is "touching the earth" in Bhumisparsha, sign of his victory over the Tempter Mara, the Buddhist Satan. Some patina, green in areas, mounted on black base.
HEIGHT (WITHOUT BASE) 32,5 CM
From a German private collection
