Description
Bronze. Sino-Tibetan, 18th cent.
Amitayus is a special form of the Buddha Amitabha and his name means "endless lifetime". In this very carefully crafted bronze, he sits in padmasana on a lotus pedestal and both hands rest on his lap. These, as well as the vase they once held (containing life elixir amrta) are lost. Tall hair bun and ornament, jewelry on the ears, around the chest and arms. Rest of old lacquer gilding, which once covered the entire figure.
