Regency-Style Anglo-Indian Bone and Wood Sewing Chest, 19th century, the sarcophagus-form box decorated with ink-stained bone inlay and tropical hardwood panels, and raised on paw feet, the fitted interior set with covered compartments, needle cases and thread holders, h. 4-1/4", w. 11-3/4", d. 7-1/2".
Condition
In overall very good condition. Very few losses or imperfections of a piece of this intricacy. There is a loss to the green stringing on the lid, about 1 1/2" long. There is a missing piece of vertical bone stringing to one rear corner. The back side of the lid has veneer/inlay chip that has been re-glued and slightly misaligned . The interior is also decorated with similar inlay. There is one round interior lid/vessel, and seven additional round holes that may have previously had similar lids. One rectilinear lid exhibits inlay losses at a corner.
