Dutch-Colonial Carved Ebony Chest on Stand
attributed to Batavia, circa 1680-1720, two part form, deal secondary, rectangular dovetailed case with applied relief carvings throughout featuring flowers, urns and bird motifs, the case with ten various sized drawers, set on a conforming stand with single drawer on bold spiral twist inverted baluster legs.This type of furniture is associated with the workshops of Batavia (present-day Jakarta) which became the centre of the Dutch East India Company's trading network in Asia and European-style furniture was made for the Dutch elite in the region.
