Allan McCollum, American, b. 1944, "Natural Copies of Dinosaur Tracks from the Coal Mines of Central Utah", 1995, enamel on cast polymer-modified glass-fiber reinforced gypsum with the participation of Essex Works, ed. 3/6, each signed, numbered and dated (6 pcs)
Provenance:
Acquired from the consignor at John Weber Gallery, New York Note: McCollum, whose work was featured in the 1975 Whitney Biennial, created his "Natural Copies" series as a companion to his previous "Lost Objects" and "The Dog From Pompeii" series. The "copies" are recastings of "natural casts" of dinosaur tracks found in the roofs of central Utah's coal mines. These tracks were cast from replicas of rubber molds made from fossils on display at the College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum in Price County, Utah. "The Natural Copies were produced with the help and cooperation of the College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum in Price, Utah, with additional help from Art Resources Transfer Inc. in Los Angeles and the National Endowment for the Arts. They were cast in polymer-modified glass-fiber reinforced gypsum in cooperation with Essex Works, New York City."
