Description
After Frans Hals the Elder (Dutch, 1582-1666), "The Merry Drinker" - circa 1628-1630. 19th century diminutive figural painting on rectangular panel depicting a copy after the Dutch Golden Age master's original currently housed at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Figural genre work depicting a man at bust length in large dark hat tilted at angle, white lace collar and shirt cuffs, gold tunic top, and blue accented jewelry, holding hand up and opposite hand holding glass of alcohol. Inscribed at right "n. Hals". Panel measures approximately 3.4" x 2.6". Framed approximate height (to top of hook) 5.7", width 4.5".
