Il maestro di Malamocco, con il suo tipico tratto sintetico ed essenziale, riesce a infondere in questo acquerello tuttala poesia del suo personaggio più amato e che più lo ha contraddistinto durante la sua carriera. Si allega all’opera la perizia di8 pagine del Dottor Stefano Liberati, eseguita su richiesta della Procura della Repubblica, ed un parere di autenticità a firma diGuido Fuga, fidato collaboratore del maestro per oltre 30 anni e indiscusso esperto e conoscitore dell’opera di Pratt. Crayon, ink and watercolour on thin cardboard. Original unpublished illustration drawn by Pratt in 1980. One of the most beautifuland important portrait of Corto Maltese never appeared on the market. The master of Malamocco with his typical dry and essentiallines manages to instill in this watercolour all the poetic sensitivity of his most loved and famous character. We attach the appraisalof eight pages made by Stefano Liberati, on the request of the Public Prosecutor’s office, and the opinion of authenticity signed byGuido Fuga, for 30 years collaborator of the master and undisputed expert of Pratt’s work. Slight fold on the high left corner, besidesin perfect conditions. Signed and dated.

Un des portraits les plussinguliers et inspirés de Corto Maltese jamais apparus sur le marché. Le maître de Malamocco, avec son typique trait synthétiqueet essentiel, parvient à insuffler à cette aquarelle toute la poésie de son personnage le plus aimé et qui l’a distingué davantagependant sa carrière. On joint à l’ouvrage l’expertise de huit pages de M. Stefano Liberati, exécutée à la demande du Parquet, et unavis d’authenticité signé par Guido Fuga, collaborateur de confiance du maître pendant plus de 30 années et incontesté expert etconnaisseur de l’oeuvre de Pratt. È con grande piacere e soddisfazione che Urania Casa d’Aste ripropone ai suoi affezionati clienti un’opera che è stata negli ultimi mesi al centro di numerose polemiche, un’opera che è considerata ormai all’unanimità tra i più pregevoli ed evocativi ritratti di Corto Maltese realizzati da Hugo Pratt. La storia di questo ritratto ha origine quando nel Novembre del 2012 fu presentato per la prima volta sul mercato internazionale dalla prestigiosa casa d’aste francese Artcurial in un catalogo di vendita dedicato alla Bande Dessinée, all’interno del quale l’opera veniva testualmente descritta come uno dei più bei ritratti conosciuti di Corto Maltese: “L’un des plus beaux portraits de Corto Maltese connus. Pièce de muse”. Il lotto non fu però battuto all’asta, ma ritirato misteriosamente pochi giorni prima della vendita. Parte degli eredi Pratt pose infatti dei dubbi sulla originalità del ritratto, forti del fatto che si trattasse di un’opera inedita, riuscendo così a convincere i colleghi d’Oltralpe a eliminare il ritratto. Nel 2014 Urania, convinta dell’assoluta autenticità dell’opera ed incaricata della vendita, inserì questo meraviglioso Corto Maltese nella sua 2ª Asta tenutasi a Roma il 7 Dicembre, certa dell’interesse che avrebbe suscitato. A seguito però di una denuncia contro ignoti, si innescò una querelle in ambito giudiziario e l’opera fu ritirata da quel catalogo e quindi sequestrata per i doverosi accertamenti delle autorità competenti. Dopo un anno di indagini, grazie alla perizia positiva del Dott. Stefano Liberati (perito d’arte di fama internazionale nominato dal giudice), la Procura della Repubblica ha decretato l’assoluta paternità dell’opera, confermando che essa provenga senza dubbio dalla mano e dal genio di Hugo Pratt. Questo decreto, a riprova della nostra professionalità, pone quindi fine ad ogni tipo di illazione e fa finalmente luce e giustizia, dando la possibilità a tutti gli amanti e appassionati di Hugo Pratt di poter godere nuovamente di una delle sue più belle opere mai apparse sul mercato.

Urania Auction House proudly presents to his regular costumers a work that lately has been a talking-point, an item that has been already unanimously declared amongst the finest and most evocative artworks portraying Corto Maltese made by his own creator Hugo Pratt. The history of this portrait begins in November 2012 when it was presented for the first time in a special catalogue, entirely dedicated to ‘original comic art’, published by the French auction house ‘Artcurial’. The illustration is described here, as one of the most beautiful portraits by Corto Maltese: “L’un des plus beaux portraits de Corto Maltese connus. Pièce de musée.” The item was not sold in the auction but mysteriously withdrawn a few days before the event. Some of the heirs of Pratt doubted the authenticity of the portrait since it was never published before and managed to convince Artcurial to remove it from the catalogue. In 2014, Urania strongly believing in the authenticity of the artwork and in charge of selling it, added this wonderful Corto Maltese in his second auction that took place in Rome the 7th of December, secure that it would garner great interested. Following of a complaints, began a judicial controversy and the item was withdrawn from the catalogue, then seized by the authorities in order to carry out an official verification. After one year of investigation, according to the favorable appraisal made by Stefano Liberati (internationally known art expert appointed by the judge), the Public Prosecutor’s office declared the paternity of the artwork, firmly stating that it is an original product of the genius of Hugo Pratt. This decree, a further confirmation of our competence, vindicates us against any false accusation, and in the end restores justice. It finally gives the opportunity to every fan of Hugo Pratt to enjoy one of the finest works to ever appear in the market.

C’est avec grand plaisir et satisfaction que Urania Casa d’Aste propose à nouveau à ses fidèles clients un ouvrage qui depuis des mois est l’objet de nombreuses controverses, un travail qui est maintenant considéré à l’unanimité l’un des portraits de Corto Maltese les plus remarquables et suggestifs réalisés par Hugo Pratt. L’histoire de ce portrait est née en Novembre 2012 quand elle fut présentée pour la première fois par la prestigieuse maison de vente aux enchères française “Artcurial” dans un catalogue consacré à la Bande Dessinée, qui décrivait textuellement ce travail comme l’un des plus beaux portraits connus de Corto Maltese: “L’un des plus beaux portraits de Corto Maltese connus. Pièce de musée”. Cependant le lot ne fut pas mis aux enchères, puisqu’il fut mystérieusement retiré quelques jours avant la vente. Des héritiers de Pratt en fait soulevèrent des doutes sur l’originalité du portrait, appuyés par le fait qu’il s’agissait d’une oeuvre inédite, et réussirent à persuader les collègues français d’éliminer le lot. En 2014 Urania Casa d’Aste, assurée de l’éclatante authenticité du travail et responsable de la vente, inséra ce merveilleux Corto Maltese dans sa 2ème vente aux enchères qui eut lieu à Rome le 7 Décembre, certaine de l’intérêt qu’il susciterait. À la suite d’une plainte, une querelle judiciaire éclata et l’ouvrage fut retiré de ce catalogue-là et ensuite saisi pour les contrôles qui s’imposaient par les autorités compétentes. Après une année d’enquête, à la suite de l’expertise positive de M. Stefano Liberati (expert d’art reconnu à l’international désigné par le juge), le Parquet a décrété la paternité incontestable du travail, et confirmé qu’il provient sans aucun doute de la main et du génie de Hugo Pratt. Ce jugement, preuve de notre professionnalisme, met fin à toute supposition et fait finalement la lumière et rend justice, en donnant la possibilité à tous les amants et passionnés de Hugo Pratt de se réjouir à nouveau d’un de ses plus beaux ouvrages jamais apparus sur le marché.
