Description
A nice Roman composite plate brooch, 2nd Century AD, the body decorated with well-preserved enamel, the round central portion with a pin-wheel design with a red out ring separated with vertical blue bands, the interior bright orange around the central knob, the flanged areas flanking with green, blue and orange. A nice example of the type, pin missing, deposits throughout. Cf. Hattatt, Iron Age and Roman Brooches (1985), no. 601 for a near identical example; Ex Los Angeles private collection.
