Description
This is the 1st edition of the second volume from this work, in royal oquarto size (8.3 x 13 inches) in embossed white calf over wood boards with frontis and at least 141woodcut plates, 726pp, followed by 21 unumbered pages headed ‘Register‘ with 74 additional numbered pages in rear. This book, published in Nurenberg(?) in 1682 is an encyclopedic arranged textbook on all aspects of domestic and agriculture according to the understanding of the 17th century, a highlight of the so-called Hausvaterliteratur. Its author was the Austrian landed gentry Wolfhelm Hardt Hohberg (1612-1688). This, the second volume details how to organize all aspects of farming in the easiest and most productive manner, including the breeding & training of horses, cattle, sheep, hogs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, peafowl, hounds or dogs, how to raise bees, obtain honey and wax from hives, capture bee swarms and much more on bee keeping, how to raise silk worms for profit, create all types of fountains, cicterns, canals, ponds, pools, dams, brooks, fish nurseries and other types of waterworks. How to plant, maintain and improve farm fields. All types of hunting and fishing includong bear, wolf, fox, wild cats, boar, wild goat, hares and much more. Hunting different types of wild fowl, using both shooting and falconry and so much more. All illustrated with truly wonderful woodcuts.
Condition
Minor wear to boards, damp stain and edge wear from same lower margin, with 5 pages that have some text loss, but only 3 of these are significant with circa 8-10% text loss on those pages, no loss to woodcuts, numerous short margin tears, inked presentation inscription on title page, dated 1725, still over-all Good to Very Good.
