Entitled ‘The Miscellaneous Works of David Humphreys, Late Minister Plenipotentiary from the United States of America to the Court of Madrid., by David Humphreys, published in N.Y. by T. & J. Sword, 1804, untrimmed 8vo in original blue card stock wraps, 394pp with list of subscribers and errata page in back. Humphreys, former aide-de-camp of Gen. Washington, died in February 1818. This is the second, enlarged edition, after the first of 1790, of his collected essays and poems. The essays are on the life of Israel Putnam, the Society of the Cincinnati in Connecticut, and merino sheep. Included in this volume are Humphreys' ‘Address to the Armies of the United States,’ ‘A Poem on the Happiness of America,’ ‘A Poem on the Future Glory of the United States,’ ‘A Poem on the Death of General Washington,’ and ‘Genius of America.’ The appendix contains the text of five letters from Washington to Humphreys.
