Description
[Signed] Park Chung Hee (1917-1979), 3rd President of South Korea. To Build a Nation. Acroplois Books, Washington D.C., 1971. Original red and blue cloth, original dust jacket. Inscribed to Iowan Congressman, John Culver, dated August 12, 1971 and signed in Korean by Chung Hee.
Park Chung Hee ruled South Korea from 1961 until his assassination in 1979, from 1961-1963 as a military dictator, and from 1963 until his death as an elected president. On October 26, 1977, Park Chung Hee was assassinated by his close friend and advisor Kim Jae-Gyu, then Director of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency. Hee's presidential legacy is problematic; while he promoted economic growth, capitalism, and modernization in South Korea in the 1960s and 1970s, his authoritarian government also eroded many civil liberties.
Condition: Near fine. Minor fox spots to jacket.
