An 8vo (6.25 x 9 inch) pamphlet in self wraps, unusual in that it is printed on heavy, near card stock weight paper entitled An Address Before the Washington Benevolent Society, in Newburyport, on the 22d. of Feb. 1816. By Edward W. Andrews, A.M., printed by William B. Allen & Co., Newburyport, 1816 with 15 untrimmed pages and hand sewn binding. This is a long poem in praise of George Washington and has inked owners name on front wrap of Daniel Kneeland. This pamphlet is included in the book Early American Poetry, 1610-1820: A List of Works in the New York Public Library, by Christian Frank, 2014. There was a Daniel Kneeland living in Ipswich, Ma. In 1820, 1830 & 1860 when he was listed as 86 year old pauper in Ipswich, Mass. (U.S. Census 1820 & 1860 & Mass. Marriage Records). The Washington Benevolent Societies were grass-roots political clubs set up 1808-1816 by the Federalist Party in the U.S. to electioneer for votes.
