Item Details

Description

A wonderful sixth plate tintype housed in a full case of a young male teacher seated with open book in lap and flanked by two young girls, his students. Childâ€™s high chair in background. This is almost certainly a portrait of a young traveling teacher, typical of the 183-60â€™s in rural American, where the teacher would travel from farmstead to farmstead and teach the family children for lodging and meals, sometimes with an additional small cash payment.
