Description
Mesopotamia, present day Iraq/ Syria, ca 2000 BCE. In Greek, "Mesopotamia" means 'land between the rivers', and the term came to be applied to the land between the two great rivers, the Tigris and the Euphrates, which flow from eastern Turkey, through present-day Iraq, to The Gulf; the Euphrates also takes in a large part of northern Syria. This "biscuit" is a receipt for goods sold between Ur-Dumuzi and Ur-Mes. It is for 1 quart, 3 pints of ghee and 1 quart, 6 pints of X (an ingredient used in beer making. Has a seal impression which is partially obscured, dated month "1". Size: 2" (52 mm) x 1-5/8" (46 mm).
