Description
Bor’ba s neschastnymi sluchayami na proizvodstve — bol’shevistskaya bor’ba za promfinplan [The Fight Against Workplace Accidents is a Bolshevik Struggle for Fulfilling the Production Plans], a poster by Anna Borovskaya (1901-1983 or 1984). Published by OGIZ-IZOGIZ, Moscow-Leningrad, 1932, 50 x 35.4 cm.

Soviet workplace safety posters were typically produced by specialized publishers serving the Commissariat of Health or individual industries. In 1932, however, workplace safety became the subject of a nationwide propaganda campaign that required the involvement of OGIZ-IZOGIZ. The campaign’s main message was that attention to safety is essential for realizing the full economic benefits of the industrialization drive. Simultaneously, SNK (People’s Commissars Council) introduced a variety of measures aimed at enforcing the workplace safety rules, and improving accidents treatment, and reporting.

Graphic artist Anna Borovskaya was a graduate of Vologda Art School, and later of Moscow VKhUTEIN (1923-1929). She is best remembered these days for her children’s book illustrations.
