Civil War period trunk. Found in Poughkeepsie N.Y., has card inside reading "Chest/This belonged to a Yankee who defected South and who, at end of war surrendered some North Carolina units-Appomattax/He was: Major J. L. Bost", contains various offerings including a uniform (The buttons read: "Decus Et Praesidium" (An Honor and A Guard) which is the U.S. 175th Infantry Regiment Motto. Also features (2) hats, rebel flag marked "Sherritt Flag Co. Inc....Richmond, VA. 38" x 38" Artillery, (3) used slugs, undergarments, leather case marked "USA", cartridge box with brass plaque marked "NG" (National Guard).
