Item Details
Description
WE SHIP! The AEAA is proud to present this gorgeous hand painted early C.F. Monroe, Wave Crest / Keystone Glass deep switch necklace box, using a scarce Keystone Rococo floral relief blank, with a daisy ribbed domed crown lid. This exceptional custom box dates to ca. 1896-1898, and the hand painted flowers are spectacular. Our treasure has the rare inset footed pattern, broad base and rare wedge panel design, and accentuated ormolu joiner-work neck, with the classic crowned top. The weight of our wonderful box is 1# 2 oz. and measures 4.75 x 4.75 x 3.75 inches deep. This fine heirloom is from the living estate of Ailene & Buddy Ford, respected, longtime dealers of valuable antiques. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Founded in the 1860s, the Keystone Glass Works was purchased by the Mason Fruit Jar Co. in 1885, making both Hollow Ware, Glass & Glassware, the factory was located in Ward #23, at Frankford Ave. and Orchard St. (Frankford Creek) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Many of the opaque hollow ware forms were forwarded to Wave Crest for decoration, and can be identified, in deference to the Mt. Washington opaque blanks, by arched, sculpted bases and an abundance of low Rococo relief. Some items were also finished by the Smith Brothers decorating studios during the last 15 years of the 19th century. Keystone Ware was reputedly a supplier of a small amount of blank forms, contracted by the Fostoria Glass Co. circa 1904-1909. Mold examples with an H. M. R. & Co. Phila. Keystone Ware signature have been noted in this period.
