Description
The following treasure is from the living estate of Ailene & Buddy Ford; noted dealers and lifelong collectors of valuable antique & vintage heirlooms. The AEAA is pleased to present this lovely 1950s-1960s, large Majolica glaze platter, and executed by noted Danish artisan potter Haakon Darger. The theme of this handsome platter represents a fisherman mending his nets, with a unique molded woven net well. The colors are rich, and the cover enamels are deep and well patterned. This mid 20th century Denmark pottery piece is much like the examples of other Danish & Swedish potters, who excelled at special drip, mottled, and Majolica glazes. Such household names as, Nis Stougård, Jørgen Finn Pedersen, Niels Oluf Thorkelin Eriksen, Leif og Lizzy Larsen, and Kolbrún S Kjaval come to mind. Our prominent platter weighs 2# 12 oz., measures 12 x 12 x 1.75 inches deep, and is in VG+ condition, with a few small cold flow rim glaze skips.
