Description
Egypt, either Coptic or Islamic, ca. 8th to 12th century CE. A textile fragment most likely from a tunic or garment with stylized geometric motifs in hues of red, green, gold, and black, either of Coptic or Islamic origin as the designs and iconographic motifs of Coptic textiles influenced those of the early Islamic period. Size: 6-1/4" x 4".
Provenance: Ex-private Denver, CO collection acquired from Edgar L. Owen, Ltd.; Ex-prominent private collection of an Egyptologist, acquired by descent, collection assembled in early 20th century and brought to US in 1954 with the family.
