Ivory Dress Dual Purpose Cane-Circa 1870-Ivory knob delicately carved with a crown topping a longer stem with an allegory of music showing a classic Greek lyre against a blank cartouche within two wreaths of laurel and oak leaves and an integral collar with a dot ring, rosewood shaft and a stag horn ferrule. The knob, ostentatiously showing the interest of the first cane owner for Music Arts, is treaded and opens to show a deep cavity which could have been used for a small ration of snuff tobacco or drugs. Top rate cane and as fresh as on its first day.-H. 2 ¾” x ¾”, O.L. 36 ½”-$700-$900

The ivory Loxodonta Africana in this cane complies with pre-cites and the Endangered Species Act 1973 which are currently the law in the United States. It is our opinion that this cane was made before 1973 and the ivory has not been repaired or altered.
