Ivory Dress Dual Purpose Cane-Circa 1870-Ivory knob delicately carved with a crown topping a longer stem with an allegory of music showing a classic Greek lyre against a blank cartouche within two wreaths of laurel and oak leaves and an integral collar with a dot ring, rosewood shaft and a stag horn ferrule. The knob, ostentatiously showing the interest of the first cane owner for Music Arts, is treaded and opens to show a deep cavity which could have been used for a small ration of snuff tobacco or drugs.
