Ivory Noble Man’s Cane-Ca. 1880-Long ivory handle turned of a single piece of fine grained material in an elegantly tapering vertical configuration and carved with an integral, raised crest, ebony shaft and a horn ferrule. A pleasing minimalist aesthetic finds expression in this cane which is evocative of long gone days when people took pride in their genealogy and would only wear customized accessories. It withstood the test of time brilliantly and survived with its entire detail and a great surface luminosity. The shape of the medieval helmet with three feathers over a blank cartouche with Baroque scroll side framing hints to a European, most likely Italian or German origin.-H. 7 ¾” x ¾”, O.L. 38”-$400-$600
